about me

I’ve always had a therapist within me. As a teenager, I set up “Sunday talks” with individual friends, asking questions like “Why do you do what you do?” Looking back, & growing up as a cisgender gay man in a very conservative world that prized sameness over authenticity, I think I was super curious about others because I was trying to understand myself & my place in the world.

That curiosity followed me to college, where I fell in love with literature—tracing patterns in characters & exploring the psychology behind the stories we tell. I started teaching high school English in Utah, but after a few years, I traded classrooms for barns & moved to Texas, where I found my heart horse, Arisa (seen above). Training rescue & dressage horses, I specialized in liberty work—no ropes, just presence, patience, & trust. Along the way, I leaned more into myself & surrounded myself with people & horses who accepted & believed in me.

Those experiences taught me what I believe in all healing work: everything begins & grows through relationship—with ourselves, others, our past, generational past, & the world around us.

Therapy called me back in 2020, leading me to become a fully licensed professional counselor & gain advanced training in EMDR, the Gottman Method, Polyvagal Theory, Jungian parts work, & Emotionally Focused Therapy. Sitting on the floor in my own therapist’s office, reflecting on how our surroundings shape us, I knew it was time to build a space that felt grounded, relational, & real.

That became Moss Therapy—a place for reflection, connection, & healing that grows, like moss, slowly but deeply.

I work best with thoughtful individuals and couples who want more clarity & connection in their relationships—whether at home, at work, in community, or within themselves.

You might notice familiar frustrations: conversations that start easily but quickly spiral, or moments where you shut down or get defensive even though you don’t want to. The same patterns keep showing up—& you’re curious about what drives them.

I take a collaborative, grounded, & depth-oriented approach, blending body & nervous system work, attachment, trauma-informed care, narrative therapy, & more.

I like to laugh, & yeah…swearing is welcomed!

This isn’t about fixing. It’s about reflecting, relating, & reimagining—with patience, curiosity, & a little humor. Healing, to me, is like moss: slow, steady, & deeply rooted.

I use a mix of:

person-centered & collaborative therapy

A humanistic approach that trusts people are naturally driven toward growth when they feel seen, heard, & not judged.

narrative therapy & queer theory

Narrative therapy sees our problems as shaped by stories & culture—not just within us. Queer theory challenges social norms around identity, power, & relationships.

parts work (jungian-inspired)

Based on the idea that we all have different “parts” inside us—like protectors, inner critics, or exiled pieces—that form from past experiences & want to be understood.

emdr & polyvagal tools

EMDR is a trauma treatment that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories. Polyvagal theory explains how our nervous system reacts to safety, danger, or disconnection.

gottman method & emotionally focused therapy (eft)

Gottman Method uses research & more of an intellectual approach to understand what makes relationships thrive or struggle. EFT focuses on how emotional bonds & attachment shape connection & conflict.
